Development Manager:
The Development Manager will be responsible for bringing fresh ideas and experience and demonstrating initiative and flexibility in handling a variety of tasks pertaining to fundraising and development. S/he will lead the effort to develop a base of institutional and individual friends that can become the basis in the future for a capital (or similar) campaign; manage a range of projects and assignments aimed at reaching new funders and forging innovative partnerships; play a key role in developing, implementing, and monitoring a work plan based on mission, vision, strategic priorities, and Board requirements to meet funding goals; lead creation and strengthening of systems and manage work flow around these initiatives including leading research efforts; interface with teams to create appropriate donor documents; oversee compilation of documents, proposals, and packets; and collaborate with Communications unit to create specific marketing materials and with other work groups to ensure timely completion of needed materials.
Requirements include a Masters Degree in related field (or Bachelors and additional 2 years relevant experience); five years experience in managing and implementing marketing/fundraising projects, proposals, events; strong understanding and perspective on effective communications and messaging; high comfort level and effectiveness in interpersonal and oral communications; strong marketing mindset and writing ability; experience in international work, public health, global health, with basic knowledge of international health field/funding a strong plus; well organized and detail oriented; ability to design, implement and manage multiple projects, setting deadlines and monitoring activities of self and others to timely completion; excellent oral communication skills; strong writing and editing skills, ability to edit and write simply, eloquently, and/or persuasively as needed; ability to travel internationally; computer literacy in Word, Excel, Power Point; demonstrated knowledge of the development process and understanding of all stages of the relationship with some combination of individual, corporate, foundation donors (identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship) and/or annual fundraising planning; ability to recognize when change is necessary and initiate actions to drive change; ability to see both big picture and details and to balance reactive and day-to-day public relations with proactive contacts; experience, maturity, and judgment needed to provide evidence-based guidance to executive staff; and the ability to design and manage multiple projects, setting deadlines and monitoring activities of self and others to timely completion.
