QUALIFICATIONS: Should have experience in developing and managing interpretive history programs; working with volunteers and teachers; should possess excellent speaking and writing skills; and have a good understanding of education and interpretive theory and practices.
RESPONSIBLE FOR: Assist with site interpretation and program coordination for the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough and its member organizations as needed including special events, lectures, and exhibits; assist with volunteer and staff administration; and assist Interim Director with fund development.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Manages existing educational programs including data collection, revisions, teacher's guide updates, and web page development.
Developing training materials or workshops for educators on how to use Hillsborough's historic resources.
Schedules and coordinates student/teacher visits to participating heritage education sites.
Develop new educational programs for school groups and adults (e.g. sample educational itineraries for K-12; Elderhostals; public forums).
Assists with the development of interpretive programming at area historic sites (e.g. Dickson House, Hughes Academy, Norwood Law Office, Historic District).
Assists with project coordination of special events, lectures, workshops, and exhibits as needed.
Assists in the development and distribution of publicity and promotional material.
Assists with grant writing and other fundraising activities where appropriate.
Assists in writing, editing and production of quarterly newsletters and other publications as may be required.
NORMAL HOURS WORKED: This is a temporary part-time position, normally 25-30 hours per week. Specific work schedule and duties may vary on occasion.
