Museum Graphic Designer

The Museum of Life and Science in Durham, NC seeks a creative individual to serve as Graphic Designer. This position provides support of the Marketing Director in creating effective print and online communications as well as providing consistent visual image/corporate identity designed to drive attendance. This position also provides quality design services for Museum staff in a wide variety of areas in support of the Museum’s mission. Duties include assist in the design and production of the Museum’s in-house magazine (16-page tabloid published 5 times per year) including page design, copy fitting, image production, etc., develop, design and produce printed materials for promotional, educational, membership and other in house purposes, assist Marketing Director in management and coordination of all projects in current marketing project database, manage and produce standard in house materials (business cards, signs, flyers, letterhead etc.), provide feedback and design work on web site materials, coordinate flow of marketing and design work to service bureaus, printers, and other vendors and additional duties as needed.



Requirements of the position include BFA in Graphic Design and 2 yrs experience or AA in graphic design and equivalent design experience, a strong portfolio demonstrating great work in variety of areas: advertising, logo design, print collateral, publication design, point-of-purchase, direct marketing, corporate identity, and web design, knowledge and high level skills in Adobe Creative Suite programs (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat), basic Microsoft Office skills, strong page layout and typographical skill, knowledge of digital print production and digital pre-press, self starter, self-motivated, ability to work independently, but also as a member of a team as well as strong organizational skills and strong communication skills, both oral and written. Experience in web design using Dreamweaver or Adobe GoLive, traditional or digital photography skills and/or background with ability to manage an in-house image database, and marketing experience or understanding of integrated marketing communication preferred but not required.



This position is Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week. Hiring range is $28,000-$32,000 annually plus full benefits. For more information about the Museum of Life and Science, please see http://www.lifeandscience.org.
