Spatial Information Systems Summer Intern - IntraHealth International

Supported by Capacity RKM/HRIS and IntraHealth IT, the Spatial Information Specialist supports the GIS laboratory. The specific task to accomplish in coordination and collaboration with the MER Manager are:
1) Development of a pilot open-source, mapping reporting module for the iHRIS Manage software product using MapServer and other necessary open-source geospatial tools. This task includes collaboration with iHRIS software developers to develop a reporting method within iHRIS Manage that produces user requested data output by spatial (administrative) boundaries. The task includes writing Mapserver code to integrate iHRIS HRH data with remotely available background spatial layers either found online (WMA) or through other sources and documentation of progress and results.
2) Development of cartographic products using existing and new spatial data according to internal branding standards, specifically:
a) Assist in the production of maps of Worldbank funded Congo-Brazzaville health facility assessment in consultation with IntraHealth Project Team.
b) Assist in the production of HRIS maps for Data Driven Decision Making workshop to be held in Rwanda at the end of Year 4, and further assistance development of maps based on the iHRIS products as requested.
c) Assist in the development of spatial representation of global Capacity Project results, in particular (but not limited to) the mapping of health workforce realignment and retention in Uganda and G-CAP countries.
Qualifications
A bachelors degree in geography, geographic information science (GISc), or closely related field is strongly preferred. Candidates must demonstrate a working knowledge of map projections; data management, analysis, and cartographic display using ArcGIS; GPS data collection, and have a strong interest in open-source geospatial technologies. Experience with MapServer and open source GIS tools is highly desirable. The successful candidates must have a strong interest in medical geography and preferably have experience with working in developing countries.
