Purple Armchair on West Street in downtown Raleigh will host a gala fundraiser for Habitat/Wake on Saturday, October 11. Dubbed the "CHAIRity," over 50 artists are recycling old wooden chairs from Habitat/Wake's ReStore into original works of art to be auction off (silent and "live") during the gala, which will include food, wine and live music within the open-marketplace setting of Purple Armchair. How the artists approach their chairs is completely up to them. Functional or not, construction or deconstruction – whatever they want to do with their chairs is limited only by their imaginations. Margaux's has signed on as a co-sponsor and will provide some of the evening's culinary offerings. The Raleigh Downtowner and Raleigh Chronicle are Media Partners for the event. Anyone interested in hosting a chair during September, becoming a co-sponsor by providing food and/or wine, or simply volunteering to help should contact Kim Weiss at blueplate pr: 919-272-8615; kjw27612@yahoo.com. Purple Armchair is located at 600 N. West Street, one block from Glenwood South.
