August 11, 2008 (RALEIGH, NC) -- Cathy Spargo, the artist behind Earthboar Jewelry, is bringing her handmade, one-of-a-kind jewelry to Purple Armchair, downtown Raleigh’s emerging marketplace on West Street.
Spargo uses combinations of stones, Swarovski crystal, leather and sterling silver to create earrings, necklaces, hand-wrapped stones, bracelets, bookmarks and pet jewelry tags. She will also fulfill special orders.
Purple Armchair is an open market and membership association of artists, craftspeople and other vendors of unique merchandise. When asked why she chose to become a member and sell her jewelry through Purple Armchair, Sargo said:
“Because it’s a cool place. The name and the location drew me in. I also liked the sense of community. So many stores are just ho-hum, but the name ‘Purple Armchair’ seemed to promise something a bit unusual and unique. And I wasn’t let down. I loved the unusual pieces, the array of art, and the very reasonable prices. I wanted to be a part of the action!”
Purple Armchair also carries handmade and vintage clothing and jewelry, Mid-century and Danish modern furniture, antiques, pottery, tableware, and fine art, among other items. The inventory changes and expands as the membership grows.
Purple Armchair, located at 600 West Street, one block from Glenwood South, is a member of the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, DowntownRaleigh.com, and First Friday Art Walk. Business hours are Wednesday-Thursday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Friday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. The store is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
