We ate there Tuesday evening around 530 pm on Feb 2nd. Our order was 2 hamburgers, and those nacho chips with bbq ect. Needless to say both of us had discomfort and one with food posioning, who layed all up in a local hospital last nite. The other who took most of the food home, should it be analized? How many other have had this issue from Tuesday nites dining? One star rating only because I have to click at least one.
Interesting food choices, from standard bar food (burgers, loaded fries) to fried calamari with olives, feta cheese and tomato or the avocado, lettuce and tomato sandwich. (Get it on wheat berry toast - yum!) Loads of different beers to try, or just get a half of PBR to wash away those Monday morning blues during lunch. The staff is comfortable with the odd mix of government workers, lawyers, home makers and students that this area attracts at lunch. Sometimes the smoke from next door wafts over, but generally, especially in the lunchroom next to the Morning Times, it's not smoky at all - odd for a bar, and a welcome change. If you're going for lunch during the week, get there early - it is hard to find a seat between noon and two, especially if the weather is nice.
The fried pickles are the best! I take out of town guests here all the time, just to have the pickles and the veggie burgers . . . .yum! Also, you can't beat the bloody mary with a side of PBR :-)
Their fried pickles make me happy! I wish these guys worked with Raleigh Take Out so it could be delivered, that would rule!
I give a 99% perfect score for the Raleigh Times. They have a unique beer selection, good food for little money, indie music pumping, some serious nostalgia for atmosphere, no smoking (its next door in The Smoking Times), outdoor seating on the street, and the best bloody mary in town.
The bloody mary is more of a kit. You get a spicy homemade bloody mary, with a half pint of PBR for a chaser, and a small glass with a big cucumber wedge, hot peppers and olives all for around $7. And the Raleigh Times veggie burger is consistently hands down the best I've ever had. Last night I tried the real meat burger and while it wasn't bad, the veggie burger is even better.
The only thing stopping me from popping this place to 100% score in my book is the damn TV at the bar. Sigh. At least there is only one near the back so its fairly easy to avoid.
