Best Mango Chutney in Raleigh!
There is not a lot of choice for Indian food in Raleigh. I am glad that there are any restaurants at all! I have only ever had the buffet here. Having eaten in Indian restaurants in Malaysia, Laos (yes!), Canada, USA and Korea I can say that their food is perfectly acceptable. Staff are always kind to my children. Is it top notch? No. Is it sparkling clean? No. Is it 'Americanized'? I am going to say No. The types of dishes served are the same as I have had all over the world. It is a little spicy so the kids have a hard time at the buffet. Unless you are a snob, you won't be disappointed.
Don't pay attention to the concept of authenticity. Everyone I know who has been to India says the food there is the worst Indian food they have ever had! And the most likely to make you sick!
Great indian place with cordial atmosphere and delicious food.
I'm giving this place four stars and can honestly say it's some of the best Indian cuisine in Raleigh. Good service, great flavors, and friendly owners.
As for you, Sandyboss (aka Dinomaniac), grow up. It's clear you've never been there and are just getting your jollies by posting bad reviews and seeing your name online. So why don't you save the restaurant reviews for the grownups and go back to playing with your webkinz?
I don’t understand why someone other than ‘real-party-in-interest’ would have problem with the review I wrote? I don’t challenge opinion of this reviewer (****); there are people around who like all sort of crap stuff. Any civilized person would rather leave it to the readers to decide? Why would I make a fake account (Dinomaniac) with an identical review? A ‘real-party-in-interest’ is using this dirty tactics!!
Yeah just to clarify, Dinomaniac was just some idiot that was writing a bunch of crap and sometimes copy/pasting other people's reviews. His account has been banned and reviews removed. We have verified it was not Sandyboss and in fact Sandyboss appears to have written a legitimate review. We thank you very much for your honest review Sandyboss and I apologize for the accusation that you were from another restaurant. I shouldn't have jumped to that conclusion.
Third class food and very dirty dishes. Too expensive not worth your money. I suspect that too much food variety and havivg seen the number of customers, food is probably left overs. Go at your own risk if you don't have better option.
This restaurant sucks!!! Don’t ever go there. I am originally from India and I know what Indian food is. I have tried several Indian restaurants all over Europe and North America, and Royal India is the worst one. The food is tasteless recycled from previous days. If you really want authentic and fresh Indian food I will recommend ‘Biryani House’ in Cary.
I should clarify things about ‘Biryani House’ too. I recommend that place for food only. The place is very small compared to Royal India. They use very cheap disposable dishes probably bought from dollar store. However, I will prefer their cheap stuff rather than eating in dirty dishes in Royal India. Service is poor and staff is lousy in Biryani house too. The only good thing is, the food is fresh and authentic. I hope it helps to clarify that unlike other reviewer I have nothing to with any restaurant in the town.
Wow. Thats really harsh and I don't think its true at all. I'll give Biryani House a try but I am suspicious that this review comes from someone connected to that restaurant b/c I think Royal India is not only good, but widely considered by most to be the best in the Triangle.
How do you think that's not true? Are you connected to Royal India? I have tried this place two times and it has gone from bad to worst. Flies were all over the place. I can provide similar reviews from other sites; should have checked that before taking my friends over there.
My only connection to Royal India is that I like the food. I've never experienced a fly problem. The only real complaint with Royal India is that the manager (or owner, I'm not sure) frequently walks back and forth across the dining area talking loudly on his phone.
I have eaten here a number of times, and while the decor and staff are mediocre, the food was very good each time. As for the comment about tasteless food, the food has always been flavorful and they will adjust the spiciness of the meal to your taste. I am not Indian so I can't speak to true authenticity, but this restaurant was recommended to me by a friend who is.
This is the best Indian food I've had in Raleigh, NC and even the best in the US. We'll to be fair I've only eaten at 20 or so Indian restaurants stateside but most have been so tamed down, with all the spice removed in attempts to appeal to boring American tastes. I actually went to an Indian restaurant in Raleigh recently that had plain white rice and hamburger buns in the buffet! You won't find Americanized Indian food at Royal India. In fact the cuisine here is so spicy that ordering medium is a challenge and I'm pretty comfortable with very hot food. The chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, aloo ghobi, and naan are fantastic. The staff is friendly and attentive, and don't let the strip mall exterior fool you as the interior is well done with authentic decor. This place comes close to some of my favorites on Brick Lane in London and thats pretty damn good in my book.
My only complaint:
Why do the pompadoms only come with the yogurt? Where is that spicy, red, oily, stuff with peas, and the mango chutney?
