this theater is the best that we have been to in all the time we have been here!
Avatar movie's color was muted and washed out. We'd seen the movie in 3D 2 times previously once in Crossroads Theater here in Raleigh and in another time in normal theater out in Boulder, CO. Both times, we were spell bound with the tremendous impact of the 3D experience and the rich colors.
We decided to try seeing it with even more impact on the Imax big screen here in Raleigh on Sat, 5/1. The showing here was a huge disappointment compared to our prior two viewings. And, it was mainly just the washed out, muted, blue tone haze, coloration of the movie that dragged the whole experience down to the ordinary.
If you have the choice, see the movie in 3d a normal theater. There, it's truly spectacular.
Saw AVATAR in 3D OMG .The best experience ever.
Im very sorry Raleigh. After a week of excitement and an Hour and a half long drive, your Projectionist ruined it for me.
i have seen many 3d documentaries there. And when you saw those movies you KNEW it was 3d. you could touch stuff. Well i just got done watching the most expensive 3d movie ever (Avatar) and it was HORRIBLE...not the movie, the presentation. i had dead center seats in the top stack. VERY VERY FEW scenes could i force myself to know they were 3d, and during the movie, not 1...NOT ONE!!! scense caused me to think i could reach out and grab something. what i saw tonight, was a high quality blue ray movie in 2d format. yes there was a few times in the bottom corners where the image POPPED. but it was insignificant. after reading reviews and seeing what other people said, i really feel this is the fault of the projectionist, and not James Cameron. Sorry Marbles and Imax, but i want my money back.
fortunatly i also bought tickets to the imax in charlotte, maybe they'll give me what i came for.
I saw Avatar there in 3-D and it was great. I didn't have ideal seating (front row, far right). Perhaps the reason you felt that the 3-D wasn't there was because the movie took a classier approach to 3-D (They used it to add depth to the movie, not to overtly make things appear in your face.) This wasn't a disney movie, They movie didn't stop and say "LOOK I AM IN 3-D." There are certain points where they made it more obvious (i.e. the flowers that move when he touched them) However, for the most part, the 3-D just added depth of feild. Which is a "fault" (I would say feature) of the movie not the theater. You say you have had good experiences there ("i have seen many 3d documentaries there. And when you saw those movies you KNEW it was 3d. you could touch stuff.") why then would you give the theater 1 star, if this was the only time you had a bad experience? Also, if you experience was bad, why didn't you talk to a manager afterwards? In my opinion, you didn't mention enough to explain a 1 star rating of the theater.
We're SO fortunate to have an Imax Theater in Raleigh! This is #1 First Class Entertainment. It is a movie experience and the people there are wonderful!!
There's NOTHING like an IMAX movie - an awesome experience all the way around!
The price isn't bad, because the screen is huge but the seating sucks (especially if you get stuck in the front ) which is why I give it a 4/5.
We took my 4 yr old and 8 yr old to see Bugs. They loved the movie and the popcorn was a plus. This 3D movie was well worth seeing even for the adults. It looked like you could touch the bugs. We really enjoyed it.
Even though it's a bit pricey the viewing experience is unsurpassed. Save up and make it a special outing. We saw the bug movie and felt as if we could touch the fluttering butterflies. I felt like the spiders and centipedes were crawling on me. My senses were definitely aroused. The IMAX theater makes movies come alive. Everyone should experience the viewing of a movie at an IMAX theater.
The IMAX experience is awesome. And, if you get a chance to see a 3D movie there, by all means go.
