Worst movie going experience EVER!!! Bought 5 Tickets online, called theater to confirm time (midnight 1 night only screening). Theater told us to be there Thurs. at midnight, got there along with 15 other people & was told the movie was showing the next night (20 people were told the wrong night). Mgr. offered no apology, solution, or anything for inconvenience; all she kept saying was, we can't give any refunds...no one was asking for a refund! I suggested free tickets to another show for everyone for having to drive to Durham at midnight for nothing, especially since we would all have to drive back the next day, they said okay. Came back to see the movie Friday, gave them my conformation information & was told "since we gave you tickets to another movie, we canceled your tickets for this movie" and its now SOLD OUT so we can't let you in. Seriously!? I kept telling the mgr. that she had to make this right, that driving 35 mins. to Durham twice to see a movie that I bought tickets for a week in advance & still not being allowed to see it wasn't right! Instead of trying to figure something out, she called the Police! Seriously!? Another Mgr. came over, took back our "comp/free tickets" and got us into the movie. WORST THEATER EVER...SERIOUSLY!!!

Soutpoint Cinemas (or South Point Cinemas) is a dependable multiplex with solid staff. If you ever wonder what difference leadership makes read my review of Carmike Wynnsong 15. Southpoint is newer, its stadium seating has a steeper angle (walk fast to the last row if you are of a certain age and you will be out of breath) and the staff is competent and efficient if not warm and friendly. The managers walk around like secret service agents with earpieces. I think that technology helps them keep tabs on what is happening. Managers are frequently behind the counter helping out too, yet another important team dynamic missing from its cross Durham rival.

Transition to new ownership, they are owned by Mark Cuban's company now, went without a hitch. Their frequent movie program is excellent for someone like me who goes to a movie a week and lives in walking distance of the theater. Staff is diligent about keeping the entire facility (including rest rooms) clean. Cleaning must be a constant challenge in heavy traffic environments like movie theaters and this team does a yeoman's job of keeping up with any such environment's tendency toward entropy.

This is not the place to see anything off the beaten movie path. Since the Cuban buyout content risk taking has gone down and potty humor has gone up. I suspect sadly that is because the one is much more profitable than the other (potty humor vs. art). I spend 90% of my movie junkie money here. The rest is spread among the Carolina (best venue for art films but hard to hear for an oldster like me) and Carmike Wynnsong 15. Soon everything in all these venues will be on our cable boxes, but there is something about sitting in a darkened theater with strangers that can't be duplicated at home. This theater's team is diligent and well led making Southpoint Cinemas the best in Durham.

It's a great ambiance and lots of choices except........they seldom have movies that have any kind of substance. It would be great if they always offered one film in their lineup of movies.
Popcorn alert: it's hard to distinguish the popcorn from curled cardboard. How DO they succeed in making such bad popcorn ? Blek!

i thoroughly enjoy southpoint cinemas. there's usually plenty of options for movie showtimes and the theater is in a convenient location, in close proximity to the mall.

southpoint cinemas is a great movie theater! they always have a good selection of movies to choose from, and the people that work there are very nice. it's in a nice location as well, right by the mall so there's lots of shopping that you can do before or after the movie. i love this place!!

I agree completely! The cinemas are great, but mega expensive. But isn't that what all cinemas are like?

The place is huge! I love the feeling of walking in and seeing all the sites! The only thing is, their food is a bit too expensive. $3.00 for water? that's a little much. Either way, I always choose Southpoint Cinemas first.

My husband and I go to Southpoint Cinemas every Friday afternoon. We have found the employees to be very courteous, the Manager very helpful whenever we had a problem (I lost my umbrella and the manager was very helpful in finding it.), and a variety of the latest movies. Plus Southpoint has a nice mall in which to shop and a variety of restaurants and eating places.

I love the atmosphere and the employees always treat the costumers with great respect. All of the movies that me and my friends would like to see are being shown at the Southpoint Cinemas. I love to visit the theaters, and especially a nice one like this.
