I've always enjoyed The Lumina. It's unique in it's size and feel. If I were the owners I would do something about the management . . . these reviews can be very damaging. Maybe they just have more patrons than they need.
Do not go to the theater left of the ticket office. It is tiny. Instant turn off. I dare say new upscale homes have larger media rooms than this theater at Lumina. Part of my reason for going to a theater is for comfortable seats, wide screen, and super sound system. Shame on Lumina for charging full ticket price.
I used to go to this theater quite frequently until my last visit there. I will not return.
I never buy popcorn at a movie for multiple reasons, but we decided to treat ourselves that day and got a medium popcorn to share. The sign said that the mediums had free refills and we asked the worker at the front to verify that there were free refills on the popcorn. Less than halfway through the movie, I went out to get our free refill only to find that everything had been put away and there were no free refills. I ended up missing 5 minutes of the movie for no point. I decided to call the manager the following day to talk to her about it---because what they were telling people and what was actually being done were two different things. I told her my concern and she laughed at the pettiness of it. I don't think that it is appropriate to ever laugh when a customer's money, time, and services are in question. (I had ever self-admitted that my concern may seem silly and petty). This is bad business....period. I told her that there was a very easy way for a manager to deal with this, "Miss, please come in and we'll give you a popcorn voucher and make sure that the policy( they stop giving refills 15 minutes after the final movies starts) is clear to everyone. We appreciate your business and hope that this won't influence your choice of movie theaters."
I told her that she wasn't handling it as a manager should and that I would be going to Southpoint Cinemas from now on, in which she responded, "Have fun at Southpoint" and hung up the phone.
I am level-headed, never have written a review, never have called in to complain about anything in my life, but felt strongly enough about the way that I was treated to do so.
I hope that others will follow suit...and go to Southpoint Cinemas or other local theaters instead...at least until they find a new manager with some business sense and manners.
Very nice theater but with the absolute worst popcorn I've ever had. It didn't used to be bad but the last two times I went to the movies there, the popcorn was so bad it was inedible. A small thing, I know, when the other aspects of the theater are so nice; good parking, friendly folks, comfortable seating, good sound system. But I go for the whole movie experience and that includes popcorn. I am now going back to Southpoint to see movies. I hope they change whatever they did to the popcorn back to the way it used to be.
Stadium seating and reasonable prices for concessions.
Worst thing about the Lumina? I don't want to pay movie
prices to listen/watch commercials on the big screen prior
to showing previews/feature films.
Take away the commercials and the Lumina would get a 5 star rating from me.
The place is a nice size, not too big not to small. The food is a good price, $1.00 for water. Everything keeps the other things in balance, which makes it a great choice.
