Relatives were visiting from out of town. A persistent abdominal pain brought up concern so we brought our guest to the Wake Med Emergency Room at 3000 New Bern. The entire experience took a ridiculous 7 (seven) hours. We arrived around noon on a Thursday and were not discharged until almost 7:30. Waits for med techs and the doctor were over an hour at a time. Most of the staff was pleasant enough (the only redeeming factor to earn this visit 2 stars) but overall the visit was barely acceptable.
This begs the question: Is the facility grossly understaffed or just horribly unorganized?? I have been to ERs in the past and have *never* been in on for more than two hours even when xrays or other addtional services were needed.
Luckily I have never had need to attend a local ER and I hope this experience was the exception to the rule. We noticed many other patients that arrived and departed about the same time we did. I will certainly advise others of this experience and in the future make the trip to Duke on Wake Forest Road or even Rex on Blue Ridge even though they are farther away.
