518 West for the win over 42nd Street any day.
This is definitely a place to eat in Raleigh--we had the restaurant cater our wedding rehearsal dinner. It's just fantastic Italian food.
But the restaurant itself is a gorgeous and homey facility--you really want to sit and order dessert after a delicious dinner, which I recommend because the dessert is as excellent as the entrees.
One of my wife's favorite places in Raleigh is now one of mine. Mainly because of the reception we receive any time we show up. Who needs reservations? One weekend we had reservations for 7 at place around the corner. On arrival we were told we'd have to wait another 45 minutes. Nice. Mom was not happy. On a lark, I walked next door to 518 and got a table in 5 minutes. And they were crowded too! This experience adds another charm on the 518 memory bracelet. Great food, generous portions and attentive staff keep 518 high on our list.
