I love shopping at the Purple Armchair. There is always something new to look at. I have bought a few art pieces that I love! I will be back. MK
I like the main shop but the warehouse is too hot..there's no air conditioning. Despite interesting pieces, I just wanted to get out of there. The heat is difficult to tolerate.
Also, the artwork is very basic..not very exciting. There are lots of good galleries and shops downtown that sell much better artwork. However, the pottery and glass pieces were very interesting.
Some of the retro pieces are over-priced, especially for their condition. I have seen similar pieces at the Fairgrounds.
Awesome....nothing can compare new look to the Raleigh Downtown atmosphere!
This comment is obviosly written by the owner as it is nothing like this, if you are stupid enough to visit, then so be it
NOTE: I have deleted 3 really nasty, negative reviews all written by the person who wrote the above comment and posed as multiple people.
I am the owner of Purple Armchair and I can assure you that I have not written, responded or requested any reviews on this forum until now. I would like to know however why this user is so upset with us. Jeff B. I would love to talk to you about what it is that we have done to make you have such feelings about us. Do you have any constructive replies?
The Purple Armchair is the answer if you are looking for reasonably priced antiques and high quality newer wooden furniture. The owner is a nice guy, the sales manager even nicer. They are doing a great business down there and you can see why as soon as you walk in. The West Street location is convenient to downtown, but unfortunately is a little bit easy to miss. It is right across from the bead shop down the street from Bogart's. There is an air conditioned store front filled with knick nacks and some furniture and an un-air conditioned warehouse filled with lots of interesting pieces. The prices are reasonable and negotiable. I got a great deal on a piece for our new house and we plan to go back for more. Also, he offered to find the things that we need if he didn't have them. Great customer service and great prices, my new favorite store!
Purple Armchair is a new furniture consignment shop one block off of Glenwood South. Most of the stuff is old wooden antiques with a Victorian feel but I chatted with the owner (nice guy) for a bit this afternoon and he says he'll be getting in a ton of more modern antiques from the 50's and 60's in a couple weeks.
The telephone number for the Purple Armchair is 1-919-341-8572. We have great retro, art, photography, sterling silver jewelry, vintage clothing, antiques, pottery, candles, vintage linens, and more and more. Come and see us. Barbara Chenoweth, located at the Purple Armchair. First Fridays... we have goodies to share.
