I first discovered Carmen's after I flew home last week from my hometown of Tampa, FL... and I have already been back once within a week's time! I grew up around Cuban food, so I'm very picky about it, but Carmen's delivers great food with authentic flavor.
The food is absolutely delicious and the layers of Cuban flavors are wonderful to the tastebuds. The atmosphere is comfortable and modern, and the mojitos from the bar are the best in the area. The service staff is attentive and they answer questions with a smile for those patrons who are not familiar with Cuban food lingo or anything questionnable on the menu.
I recommend the Cubano sandwiches with plaintains or yuca for lunch, and the mahi-mahi with citrus salsa and plaintains or yuca for dinner. Entrees are also served with white or yellow rice and black or red beans (I prefer the yellow rice and black beans). I've sampled other entrees as well (thanks to friends who share), and EVERYTHING was delicious. For dessert, the flan and tres leches are also tasty, so save room for some after your meal (and be sure not fill up too much on the delicious Cuban bread they bring out to your table before your meal!).
Carmen's is a "must" for anyone looking to explore Cuban cuisine in the Triangle area! Carmen's even has a website, so Google them if you want a peek.
I love Cuban food, and this place is BY FAR... the best in the triangle area.
