What a difference from Nanas! The decor is very similiar, the service is still good, but, obviously, the food is much different. I loved the outdoor seating and the traditional southern menu. I had the fried chicken, which was good, but not as appealing as the bbq my tablemates had. I vote yes on dessert at The Pit. One last thing...the owner...very sweet man...very adorable...he works the dining room well, making sure everyone is happy. I'd go back for the food, and to support him.

This is upscale barbecue like I've never had before..... We'll I've never had upscale barbecue but after visiting The Pit I think I like it. :)
Ed Mitchell is the pitmaster hailing from Wilson, NC The barbecue was perfectly cooked over wood as it should be with lots of juices and flavor. You are presented with a bottle of molasses based sauce or a eastern NC style vinegar based sauce with a touch of heat. Both were tasty. This is the old Nana's Chophouse location and they have left most of the cool features of the building intact including the big sliding doors in front of the bar which makes for a nice breeze and view of the street for people watching when you are having a drink.
My only complaint is that we were seating in the left hand side dining area where nobody else was sitting and they've added a partition wall which really made me feel separated from the rest of the restaurant.
