As with most of the reviews, I don't rate the provider a high score because my experience was not pleasant. They let me wait for long time (my appointment took 2 hours just for a regular checkup). Interestingly, if they did not let you wait so long, they would say "sorry, blah, blah ... If they really did, they wouldn't say a word to you. What a hypocrisy! And, the glasses is way too expensive even though I have an insurance covering frame and lens. I decide not to go there any more.
They are trying to serve a large amount of patients and they do not provide good customer service or lower prices to make up for that. I only tried going here because I bought the Groupon coupon for eyeglasses. I was quoted a price for glasses but when I ordered them I was told by another person the price was actually $80 more, the Groupon is definitely not worth any savings. I called for contact lens prices and was quoted $135 but when I called to order at another time I was told by another person that the price was almost $300. I had to go back twice for a contact lens check to get the right fit. Each time the Dr would give me a pair to try and then leave the room to meet with another patient. He said I had to let them settle, which only takes a few minutes but he would be gone for 10-15 minutes each time. Each contact lens check appt took over an hour! Then I ordered a yearly supply of contacts and was told they would be delivered to my house in 3-5 business days. After 6 business days I called and they told me they were on backorder. They refused to give me a trial pair in the meantime, even though I had been wearing my current pair for over two weeks and the contacts I ordered were late being delivered. I used to work at an eye Dr's office so I know the trial pairs are given to them for free and I have never had an eye Dr refuse to give me a trial pair. I have expressed all of these concerns to their employees and they did not care. I will never go here again.
Eye Care Associates of Aberdeen, NC charges customers more when they find out that the patient has insurance. They also perform expensive and unnecessary procedures in order to make more money. At their office it is all about money. I paid for an eye exam a couple of years ago and never received a prescription. And forget about contact their management office in Cary, NC. None of them have email addresses posted. That indicates to me that they receive a lot of coomplaints. Avoid them at all cost.
The optometrist was very caring and helpful with the selection of my frames. However, I've since been to the store 4 times, yet my glasses still hurt and I trip over things while I wear them. This is my 4th pair of progressive lenses--the first 3 pairs were from other providers and were fine. Caring and consideration are excellent qualities in optometrists, but it shouldn't take more than 4 visits to get the fit right.
I visited the Cary NC location today to pick up my brother's glasses and for a contacts appointment that he had.
The contacts appointment went well until I was notified that I owed $ 45 for a previous eye glasses appointment. I very nicely asked the lady who helped us why that was so and she rudely told me " I DO NOT DEAL WITH THAT" She told me I will have to speak to someone else. Well, I am very sure this is information she could have pulled from her computer and at the very least she could have taken 3 footsteps to find out what was going on- even pointing me to the person to speak to would have been sufficient.
She proceeded to tell me that I will have to pay 89$ once she opens the case of contacts (well, I came to an appointment expecting to pay- I did not appreciate her tone of voice) anyway, she continued to do the fitting ( she was helpful with that- which was nice). However she had (a minor) sign his documents while I sat right next to him- I did not think that was appropriate either.
So we saw the doctor very so briefly (not a problem). I asked the doctor to explain the different kinds and colors of contacts and she quickly referred me to the check out lady who I later learnt was the office manager. I think she could have spent just 5 minutes to explain-she did not seem to have the time.
Well I ask her (front desk lady) how I owe $45 and she has no idea nor an explanation. She continues to tell me that I owe $250 for the contacts and when I told her I was quoted a different price, she changes it to $189..... Thereafter she tells me that I owe $45 as a balance on my glasses. I notify her that my mother left the week before with a zero balance receipt and after I question it, it again drops to $37. She says that I was either called or a note was left in my glasses- None of which happened (and she confirmed). She tells me to return the next day to speak to the person who checked my mother out the day they paid for the glasses. I asked if it is procedure not to charge customers when they leave, and she says "no" however there was a calculation error and I have to pay for it.
I let her know that I have no problem paying for $45 or $37 or whatever amount she wishes to charge me (which is what it felt like) but I was not ok with paying for their clerical error. The receipt that my mother was initially given gave a $0 balance receipt and it is unacceptable for them to come up with a new invoice all together. She proceeded to notify me that there was a previous voided invoice and she cannot explain why.
I have paid $37 extra and like i said would have been comfortable even paying $1000. Money is not an issue. I refused to return the next day so that she could clarify an error with someone who was off. The staff here was RUDE, INCOMPETENT and lacks any skill in customer service. I will pull my entire family out of this doctor and will notify my employer and to remove eye care associates from its list. In addition, I will tell this story to anybody with ears to hear and it will all be worth my $37 dollars if another innocent customer does not have to suffer the same ordeal.
I would not use them unless you want to go blind or broke. They charge $75 for photos of your retina that do not appear to work.
When I went in the Optomitrist Grey, was too busy flirting with his intern. They fit me for contacts and when I mentioned I was seeing flashes of light, he told me to come back in three weeks for my contact lens follow up. Three weeks later he I am the last appointment, but I had to wait over an hour between the time my eyes were dialated and when he looked at my eyes. Finally he says "You need to see an Opthamologist right now". He calls around to see if they want me to go to the emergency room right now or wait until morning. It was determined that I would see an Opthamologist the following morning. The next afternoon, I had to have a Scleral Buckle put on my eye for a couple of tears in my retina. Three days later while I am recovering at home. I get a call from Eye Care Associates, and they want to know what happened. I tell them that I had a Scleral buckle and the girl says "whats that". I tell her that it is an eye surgury. She says hope you feel better and then says that they want to bill my last visit as medical visit and I need to give her my insurance information right now.
I'm sure there are better optomitrists in the area. I will even go to Target or Costco.
I cannot imagine what happened with this individual. My experience has been one of great care. I'm really sorry to see that his experience was not a good one and I hope his eye returns to normal function. I live in another state, but use Eye Care Assosiates as my eye care people. And they do an awesome job. Most recently, a blood clot went to my left eye and caused bleeding behind the eye through the veins. I couldn't get to the Centrum store, so used another in my state. He sent the xrays to Dr. Bell and I have never felt so cared for in my life. Long distant phone calls to check on me...offering to answer any questions that might be troubling me...going over the xrays again & again. They are keeping tabs on me even though I'm miles away. Here's a thumbs up to Eye Care Associates of Cary, NC. and also the Raleigh stores. Laura Ely's office where Dr. Grey works is, in my opinion, a very alert and consciencious place of business. It just doesn't make sense to think a doctor would ignore a comment of "flashes of light". Dr.'s have more than one patient and cannot give immediate care to us at times, but to be negligent...I don't think so. Sometimes we will have to wait a bit, but for good reason. Doctors don't become doctors by being negligent. There must be more to this story.
