Ordered short ribs and an array of sliders. Sliders were like what my 6-year-old would make if she had a sleepover. the entree, short ribs, came to our table in less than five minutes after we ordered it. The texture and taste was just what you expect from, I don't know, a microwave, a crock pot? Disgusting. Service was just okay and I think the white curtains seperating the tables was a nice touch. Would not go back even if was free.
My daughters took me for a treat on my birthday. We dressed and were ready to spend our money but received poor service and to be honest I felt like we were not one of the inside the beltline younger crowd they catered to. I had a wonderful time with my girls but felt they over paid for our evening.
I think this place is great! The atmosphere is very cool and a restaurant on 3 levels, wow! If you don't like high prices, small portions, and fancy food, this isn't the place for you. But, if you like fine dining and you're a classy person with a sophisticated pallet, try Solas!
Solice: Esse quam videri "To be rather than to seem to be" should be your new moto.
Firstly, the negative reviews are the most accurate regarding the club Solice in Raleigh, N.C. And, it is most likely that the positive reviews (as advised of all new hires at the club) are in fact personnel form the club itself and not real opinions like ours.
Unfortunately, Solice and its staff are not living up to the much express hipe. As a creature of habit, I tend to order the same beverage in most resturants and bars. Obvioulsly, charging different prices for the same drink elludeds, in my opinion, to skimming by the bartenders and/or unethical behavior from the club in general.
On one of my last visits, my friends and I were turned away on my birthday because of the fact that my friend (who is incidentally a Ph. D recipent) was wearing the wrong shoes. Peraonally, I have seen the flip flops there, but, I suspect that the rude Russian girl is really the one calling the shots (you know, the teedy-bopper mentioned below).
Without question the and culture of the club is largly negative unless you are willing to drop 100.00 to reserve a table or 500.00 to reserve a booth on the balcony/cabana, otherwise you will be treated with a great deal of disrespect.
My friends and I have done the bottle service in LA and spent time in the best establishments in Atlanta and Solice is not anywhere close to being worthy of an award. But, to compare this to an establishment like Rey's (fine food in Raleigh) or The Opra House (club in Atlanta) and suggest that is is the best that Raleigh has to offer is obsurd.
Given the renovation plans from the City of Raleigh on Hillsboro Street and the numerous customer complaints, I do not see Solice suceeding unless drastic changes are made. The culture of the club is poor and, irregardless of who you are or how you dress, you will be grossly disappointed in Solice.
horrible place....horrible! Would prefer Chili's to this place and will at least be appreciated!
My wife and I came to this restaurant at 6:00pm on a Thursday evening for dinner. We were told that every table was reserved for the entire evening, but the entire restaurant was empty. When I challenged the issue, the hostess responded with the explanation that they like to keep their tables free until 6:30pm to accomodate guests who have already reserved tables. We were told that no accomodation could be made for us unless we would prefer to simply sit at the bar.
My wife and I left dissapointed, so I waited 15 minutes and called back to learn that the hostess failed to offer us a table in the first floor lounge, which is first-come-first-serve. The woman on the phone also offered to sit us in the lounge on the balcony, but declined to serve any entrees there, as that is an "appetizers lounge only."
The hostess was somewhat snobbish, and presented herself as a teeny-bopper.
We were dressed very nice, and came with an understanding of the high price menu, but nonetheless, we were turned away, when we could have easily been accomodated.
Instead, we patronized another restaurant that appreciated us.
I expect that we won't try again.
Greed, pure and simple. $10 at the door will get you into a wannabe club with a tiny dance floor, music that's way too loud, and poor drink service unless you have reserved one of their tables or sofa areas. The music is hip-hop garbage that's undanceable as far as I'm concerned. If you're a designated driver, it 'only' costs you $2.50 for a soda. Oh, they tell you that you only have to pay once and get free refills, but I bought my first from the bar and then opened up a tab with a waitress. I gave her my empty glass and requested refills (and beers for my friends) throughout the night, only to find that I had been charged for my soda again at the end of the night. One waitress told my friends and me that we could not sit at any of the unreserved tables unless we spent at least $100! Are you kidding?! Everyone on the upper level is crammed into one side of the bar while the other side (for people who spend gobs of money) remains scarcely occupied at times. They let in guys wearing shorts and flip-flops too. Yeah, really classy. This owner doesn't have a clue on how to run a club. My 5 friends and I will no longer be going here.
Food is great! Atmosphere is unbelievable... I love to relax on the rootop on Sundays.
obviously this Jag-Off either works there or is sleeping with someone who does work there.
amazing food !! great rooftop bar
