I think the gym is not so equipped.
I've belonged to other Planet Fitness before. This is my 3rd one. The staff is super friendly. The equipment is very clean. This gym staff is always wiping down machines, picking up paper towels, etc. They have a staff trainer that can help you--there at limited hours. None of the other Planet Fitness I went to offered that. The staff is always willing to answer your questions. No one bothers you. It is a no frills gym but if all you want is tanning, basic cardio & weights--this is a top pick!! Also the location is easy to get in & out of, ample parking, &
no wait for machines.
To the last poster, I'm not sure which club you're referring to but the Glenwood Ave planet Fitness is the best gym I've ever been to. It is very clean and is always pleasant to work out at. It clearly states you can't wear bandanas so I'd try reading the rules next time.
I am very disappointed in this gym. When Golds became Fitness Connection last month and members lost the ability to use the nationwide Golds' network, I decided to look for another gym. Planet Fitness is a little farther from my house, but I liked that it had longer hours.
When I went to do my cardio today, I put on a bandana (sweat otherwise causes me to break out on my hairline). As I was headed into the gym, Paula, the manager, told me I had to take it off, as headscarves were not allowed in the gym. She did say, however, that I could wear a baseball cap. So let me get this straight - you can wear something on your head, but only a certain kind of something. I think its pretty obvious why one is okay and on is not, and its nothing that would adversely affect the gym or its members. I was taken aback, not only by this ridiculous rule, but by how rude Paula was - scolding me like a child.
Planet Fitness has its slogan, "The Judgment Free Zone" painted everywhere - on every machine, wall, etc. They spelled "judgment" wrong however, so everywhere one looks, one sees "judgement" instead. The place is too classy for bandanas but has no problem displaying its illiteracy.
After several days of working out at this gym, I have realized just how much it is missing. It is nowhere near the size gym I am used to and there are lots of machines and equipment it does not have that every other gym I have used has. This gym is probably great for people wanting very basic workouts (and who don only a baseball cap on the head). I thought I could deal with the terrible colors (purple and yellow) and the misspellings - but when you throw a rude and obnoxious manager into the mix...well, count me out. There are plenty of alternatives for gyms on Glenwood Avenue. Trust me, you can do better!
First of all, the spelling isn't wrong, the word was originally spelled "judgement" and many people still spell it that way. Secondly, while it may be a stupid rule, it's clearly posted and outlined in their rules when you sign up. The only part of your review worth anything is the very last paragraph. You know, the part about working out...
Sorry, but go to law school or submit a memorandum to court stating summary judgement and they will automatically think you know nothing and you lose credit!
It is funny that you complain about illiteracy, yet your literacy could easily be called into question, based on the fact that you couldn't comprehend their rules that clearly state "Baseball caps only."
I was told to remove a ski-cap at Planet Fitness one time and, while taken aback, I realized I had no reason to be offended, since I should have known better.
Moral of the story? Quit whining. If you're speeding and a police officer pulls you over and gives you a ticket for speeding, are you going to rant & rave about his literacy? Does his literacy matter, when you're the one breaking a rule that you should have known not to break? You're a hippocrate. (Yep, intentionally misspelled, just to piss you off)
I have been a member of many gyms in several cities and states. Planet Fitness on Glenwood Avenue is by far my favorite. The equipment is top notch, and the environment is pleasant.
Love the gym but hate some of the people. I'm constantly harassed by these bully type guys in there. What are we in high school? Even worst I'm a woman not some other guy. It doesn't get any tackier than that! Apparently, even when there is no indication they are coming back to a machine they will still come over and act all arrogant about it being "their" machine. I hate to give this gym a bad rep because the gym it's self is great. Although the constant annoyance of fellow gym goers makes me think maybe it's not worth it. I use to go to Gold's in North Hills and NEVER was harassed like I've been here! Love the price and I think they have plenty of equipment. People seem to have better manners at the Atlantic Ave. location. Just a heads up if you don't want to have to fight off the bullies!
If you're still a member, here's what you ought to do (I did it & it worked for me):
Kindly introduce yourself (though, don't use your real name) and ask the jerks for their names. Then, after you've made "friends" with them, go report them to the manager and tell them that they're harassing you and making you feel uncomfortable. They'll probably be removed permanently.
I am a member of the Planet Fitness behind Car Max off of Glenwood Avenue. I have gone almost every day since I joined in late October 2009. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly, always call you by you first name. I have been many different times in the day and no matter who has been working seemed to enjoy their job very much.
The people that go their are down to earth people that are just trying to get in shape and/or stay in shape.
I would recommend this facility to anyone. It is also a very very clean facility.
As a manager at the Planet Fitness in MA I do mention that there is an annual fee and that it guarantees your rate per month will not change for the life of the contract. For ten dollars a month and an annual rate of 29 dollars. Very important to make the member feel like it is not a dealership atmosphere. Good Day. Eric
watch out for hidden charges! they say that it is only $10 a month, but apparently there is a $20 "rate guarantee" charge that is assessed every october 1st in the contract! they conveniently never mentioned that when signing up.
They mat have forgotten to mention this to you, but when I signed up it was highlighted on the contract and very clearly explained to me.
I've signed up 3 different times, and they explained it to me each time. They also have a huge sign by the front desk saying "Rate Guarantee of $XX.XX will be charged to applicable accounts October XX" or something along those lines.
Nice place and very cheap. Basic gym, but staff is always friendly and it is always very clean.
