Look i also used to work there, and they're are not lying when they say that the place is nasty. (we had 84 on a health inspection initially) however we knew when the health inspector was coming back and thoroughly cleaned the night before just to receive a 94. The place truly is nasty, as for the owner, he is truly clueless, a complete a** hole. You can always tell who he is because he's always drunk in the bar at night. He is also sexist as well as rascist, if you'll notice, most of the new servers are white females.. including two that are supposedly training and are well underage. The place is a s*** hole. If you must go, ask for Joe as a server and Ray as they Chef, they are the best there. As for workers there writing reviews, never saw it, but who knows.
Me and my family went here for my sister's birthday. The service was bad and the food not worth the money. When I first walked into the place, I had a bad feeling about it because there was a distinct lack of Asian staff. That may sound bad, but when I go to eat at a JAPANESE steakhouse, one would think that there would be some cultural representation from the people working there. After being seated, we finally got our drinks, and eventually the chef came out to cook for us. Compared to other Japanese steakhouses I've been to, he was mediocre at best. The food was decent, but again, not worth what we paid. The waiter never brought my father a refill for his drink which he asked for 5 times. The chef forgot to make my parent's dessert, and when they pointed it out to the waiter, we wait for 30 minutes for them to bring out some apple concotion in a styrofoam box and a cup of ice cream. They tell them that this isn't what they asked for, so the solution to the problem is to take the ice cream put it inside the box with the apples, close it and wrap it in plastic wrap. On our way out, my sister speaks to the manager, and after haggling with him for a while, she gives it up as a lost cause. They did however offer a gift certificate, but the only problem is that we would have to come back to use it which isn't happening. My father left the "dessert" in the parking lot for the ants, and we left fully intending not to come back.
This place really is a joke, and I should have known when my sister picked the place because they were new, had no website, and no information about them. For a couple extra bucks in gas and a little longer drive, we could have gone to Fuji-san, Mura, or Kanki for much better service and food.
My family and I had a very nice time there. We ate in the sushi bar, not a grill table. The sushi was fresh, beautiful, and delicious. The hibachi chicken and steak were very good. We had a great meal in a nice restaurant, AND in Garner. We'll go again.
any good reviews are from the staff writing them, ive seen them do it. we had so many bad reviews we had to write good ones on here, lol. The owner has no clue about his restaurant and doesnt give a shit about it. I used to work there and the mngt is garbage! you dont want to eat there no joke it is filthy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i promise
I'm guessing from your username that you're just an impartial person whose opinion can be trusted, yeah?
wow thats pretty sad you had to cause a scene at a resturant.if you couldnt afford the tab with the discount you should have just told them obviously you liked the food bc you ate some of it and its the exact same food as wherever you go?
After 2 lousy visits to Kaze, my boyfriend and I decided to give them one more chance (forgiving, aren't we?). This had to be the absolute worst trip of them all. I eat at Japanese steakhouses all over, as I travel 6 states for a living and have had mostly wonderful, but some pretty bad experiences, but this one takes the cake! My boyfriend ordered some sushi, which was tasteless and was never given a side dish to eat off of. The server said that they had RUN OUT of chopsticks....RUN OUT??....so he got up and found some for himself, as they had not run out at all!! The soup was lukewarm at best, with an enormous amount of grease floating on top of the way too salty flavored water. The salad was not too bad. When the chef (I say that LOOSELY) arrived, he did not introduce himself and had absolutely no interaction with the patrons at the table, and let's face it, that is half the fun of eating at these tables. The appetizer shrimp was not at all appetizing, as they were overcooked and tough. The noodles were not too bad. The vegetables were not seasoned at all, except for a portion of the enormous amount of butter he used throughout the entire meal. The Bulgogi Beef my boyfriend got was overcooked and had a taste similar to what one would imagine licking a baboons ass would taste (think the smell of Kimchee) My petite serving of filet, after being fried in butter and drowned in soy sauce, was so salty it was unpalatable. Never once did the 'chef' ask how our meal was. A gentleman at our table had ordered salmon. The salmon stayed on the grill from the time the 'chef' put the chicken on the grill to after it was served (I was sitting right in front of it). I guess he realized he had made shoe leather out of it, because he proceeded to glob a tablespoonful or so of butter on it, melt it and throw some broccoli on top to disguise it. How the man was able to bite into, much less swallow it, is beyond my comprehension. We were there long enough that one of the female workers should have had to visit the bathroom, but no one bothered to clean up the toilet paper all over the floor, nor pick up the tampon laying beside of the toilet, nor bother to empty the trash can which was overflowing with used feminine products. I visited it 4 times in total, as I got quite sick. My boyfriend said the mens loo was just as filthy. When the management was informed of the uncleanliness of the bathroom, they merely picked up the toilet paper on the floor...leaving a very full, nasty trash can! At a cost of $75, and not being able to eat more than an eighth of our meal, we refused to pay the full amount. When the owner was told of my getting sick, he simply said "No she didn't." He offered to take 20% off of the entire check.....ooooo. When that offer was refused, we were threatened by management to call the police. Fine. They came. After a scene was caused, with the front end manager, the back end manager, the server, the kitchen chef and the police all surrounding the table, $20 was taken off of the entire check. After all was said and done, the kitchen chef was most apologetic and stated that that was actually the third or fourth time that one chef had caused this same action to happen and hoped that we would once again come back. YEA RIGHT!! We consistently eat at Kobe in Clayton and have never had any problems, the sushi is fresh, the servers are wonderful, the management treats you like family and it is ALWAYS a pleasurable experience. I prefer pleasurable to memorable....especially if the memory makes me shiver in nausea.
This restaurant is great!Beats Kanki hands down and I don't have to drive to the mall. The price for lunch is better too...
Great recommendation, I will try them tomorrow night. I hope I get the melancholy chef. I’ll ask him if he needs to saved from the obese Americans.
After all of these aweful reviews.....I will NOT be trying a restaurant that has the discription of a dump with bad service. I can't figure out why they had a big advertisement and a full color page on sushi....in the "Triangle East" magazine???? and then to hear these reviews??? very picky!
Kaze Japanese Steakhouse was pretty good. It's close to as good as Kanki's, but since it's in Garner instead of the mall, you won't have to wait for half an hour to be seated!
Our chef was truly skilled and put on quite the show, but he seemed melancholy. Perhaps he dreamed of working at Kanki's? Maybe he was being held hostage and made to cook in front of obese hungry people, forced to indulge their every whim.
Anyhoo, if you are in the mood for some Japanese food cooked on the table in front of you, and you happen to be in Garner, you should give Kaze a try.
